New look for Nepean's Emergency Department
New look for Nepean's Emergency Department
SHARE
May 2023
Artwork by Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay artist Dennis Golding has been installed at the entrance of Nepean Hospital’s new Emergency Department in Building A.
The new entryway artwork aligns with Golding’s earlier work On Country, which is located within the Emergency Department’s waiting area.
Both artworks speak to how the Aboriginal people within the area of the Nepean River care for country now and have done so since time immemorial.
On Country depicts Indigenous plants, seeding pods, fish, nawis, which historically and today, are used as life source for sustainability, health and cultural practice.
The artwork is interwoven by a topographical patterning of the Nepean River that links to the connecting freshwater rivers and water veins to the sea.
We’d like to thank Dennis, Creative Road and the Aboriginal Health Unit for bringing such a wonderful and important piece to life at the hospital.
