The sunny spring days have allowed our builders to make good progress onsite.
A significant amount of excavation works are required specifically for Level 0 of the new Stage 2 building where the new kitchen, general services and end of trip will be located. End of trip refers to a place where staff who travel by bike or by foot to the hospital can store their equipment and use the changing rooms.
Level 0 has been cut into the ground and will enable each floor to line up with the floors of the existing 14-storey tower. Once excavation is complete, the first section of the concrete slab for Level 0 will be poured.
The builders have started assembling the jumpform. The jumpform is a special type of concrete formwork that is used to construct multi-storey buildings. It is situated within the core of the building and rises as each floor is completed.
Construction of a temporary loading dock for the hospital is continuing with demolition and strip out works at the old Pharmacy and Microbiology department locations now complete.
Across the campus, in-ground services such as water, electricity and gas are being installed for the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Unit. Concrete is being poured in columns followed by back fill of pits in preparation for the first concrete slab. The pouring schedule for the new CAMHS building will include one slab on the ground floor and two on the second floor.
